Burgers
4th June 2017

BBQ and Burgers are two words that are synonymous with each other and are almost the heart and soul of a summer gathering

Why buy ready made in the shops when they are so simple to make at home and you get the added benefit of making them unique to yourselves with additional flavourings

Ingredients

  • 1kg Minced meat (lamb or beef)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 slices white bread, crumbed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • salt and pepper to season
  • oil
  • additional flavourings such as chilli, fresh/dried herbs, etc

    Method

First of all, add some oil to a frying pan and gently fry off the onions. You can if you want at this point flavour up your burger base with some flavours mentioned above. When softened, remove from the heat and let cool

Add your sliced bread to a food processor and blitz until they are breadcrumbs

Separate your eggs into yolks and whites

In a large bowl, add all your ingredients together (make sure onions are cooled) and then bring it all together by hand until the meat, bread, onions and eggs are well combined.

Take a small handful of the meat mixture and roll into a meatball shape. Place the meatball on a clean chopping board and gently squash down to make into a beef patty.

Repeat this with the remaining meat and when done, put the patties on a plate, cover with cling film and pop them into the fridge until ready to cook

Just remember that as the meat hasn’t been grinded by yourself; you can’t trust that the meat hasn’t been handled correctly so always serve the burgers cooked throughout.

If you want to cook the burgers rare then you’ll have to grind your own beef/lamb.
